  • Curse Of Osiris: Destiny 2 Gets ' Adaptive 4K ' on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X Gets 'TRUE' 4K

Today, I booted up Destiny 2 for the first time in a few weeks to dive headlong into the game's first DLC: Curse of Osiris, a robot shooting romp through an Egyptian-tinged version of Mercury. When I jetted over to the lighthouse, however, things looked...different. A little sharper, and a little clearer. That's because the Curse of Osiris update also brought with it 4K and HDR support for Xbox One X and Ps4 Pro. Xbox One X, being the more powerful console, gets true 4K, whereas PS4 Pro gets what Bungie is calling "adaptive 4K."

I'm seeing some chatter online that HDR is not yet working on PS4 Pro. I've asked Bungie for clarification and will update with any new information.

It's a nice little extra for anyone with one of the powerful new system.

    Meanwhile On N4G...

The Xbox One is in trouble. Sure, they released an amazing piece of hardware this holiday season with the Xbox One X. It is apparently selling very well, compared to expectations...but

He might finally get one of his predictions correct

  • There It Is ...

    Question :
Will the S force parity yes or no? We know preview is 30 already. I'm sure the S will fall well below 30fps anyhow so even if x locks it at 30 the s owners are screwed regardless.

Aaron Greenberg spells it out ...

" Developers are free to use the power of Xbox One X however they choose. We have no requirements limiting framerate."

...so it IS Sony that is forcing PlayerUnkowns framerate restrictions.

How are Sony forcing anything on a game that isn't even announced for the PS4 yet? We have seen plenty of examples of non parity (maybe not framerate though) even in games that Sony have paid for marketing rights. I don't see how Sony could be pulling the strings behind the scenes for this game.

Could it be that it will do multiplatform with normal xbox hence it should be to big advantage with 60 fps?

This game will be 60FPS on X1X out of preview give them time.....remember nobody can upset Sony.

Sony has a direct connection to Developer Brendan Greene ...

"...the battle royale genre had begun to pick up popularity of its own, so Sony Online Entertainment (now Daybreak) brought Greene on to consult in the creation of their own battle royale mode, which eventually become standalone game H1Z1: King of the Kill. King of the Kill is more arcade-y than Greene's mods, but it still wears its structural heritage on its sleeve. "

...so the conversation probably went something like this...I thought we were friends? We have 70+ million consoles out there, if you ever want that game of yours to be on them, it will have to run the same as Xbox.

...maybe...all speculation at this point. ;)

    • The Beyond Good and Evil 2 development team is hard at work bringing System 3 to life. Hear about what they’re working on right now, how it’s coming along, and how you can be a part of the creation process by joining the Space Monkey Program

ABOUT Beyond Good and Evil 2:

Journey to System 3, for the prequel to one of Ubisoft’s most beloved games! Fight alongside unforgettable characters in a stunning new solar system, as you struggle for freedom and the right to determine your own fate among the stars. Play the adventure by yourself or with friends in a vast and seamless online playground.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the spiritual successor to the cult classic, a prequel that will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world, capturing the spirit of the original with grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe. Through the Space Monkey Program, Ubisoft Montpellier will be developing the game alongside its community of fans.

System 3 has become the center of interstellar trade and colonization in the Milky Way of the 24th century, thanks to the creation of Hybrid slaves. While private enterprises fight over resources and power, the first colonists weave together the rich and diverse spiritual and cultural heritages of Old Earth to give meaning to their existence. In this new era of piracy, we will rise from lowly pirate to legendary captain at the helm of massive star-faring vessels, adventuring alongside crews of colorful characters to fight for freedom and the right to determine our own fate among the stars!

      • **Rumors**

        From Square...

“A new Tomb Raider game is coming,” Square Enix said in a Twitter post, which you can see below.

The publisher did not provide any specifics about the project, such as a name, release window or platforms. A Square Enix representative told Polygon that the company is not giving further details at this time beyond the announcement posted on Twitter.

Part of the reason that today’s announcement is light on details is that Square Enix is “taking a new approach this time” with its rollout plan. Instead of unveiling a game well ahead of release, the publisher is shortening its typical marketing cycle.

“Driven by our goal of putting our fans first, we want you to know that it won’t be very long between the official reveal and when you can play,” said Square Enix. The company added, “Our journey together will begin with a major event in 2018.” This may be a reference to the upcoming release of a new Tomb Raider film, Tomb Raider, which stars Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 16, 2018.

        From Polygon...

We also don’t know which studio is making the new Tomb Raider game. Crystal Dynamics, the developer of all the main Tomb Raider games for more than a decade, is currently working on an Avengers video game as part of a major partnership between Square Enix and Marvel. The most recent Tomb Raider title, Rise of the Tomb Raider, debuted on Xbox in November 2015 before being released on Windows PC in January 2016 and PlayStation 4 in October 2016.

A leak in October 2016 suggested that the next Tomb Raider game could be titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and that it was being developed at Thief and Deus Ex studio Eidos Montreal instead of Crystal Dynamics. Square Enix never commented on that rumor, but Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are working together to lead development on the untitled Avengers project. Note that at this time, Crystal Dynamics hasn’t retweeted the game announcement from the Tomb Raider account, or tweeted about the news itself.

Update: Gaming historian Liam Robertson noticed something intriguing about Square Enix’s announcement — something that suggests the leaked Shadow of the Tomb Raider name is indeed the title of the new game. If you take the first letter of every sentence in the statement and put them all together, they spell the word “shadow.”

        Hmmm...so 2018 it is. ;)
