  • Microsoft permanently renames Microsoft Square to Xbox Plaza ahead of E3 2019

During today’s episode of Inside Xbox, it was announced that Microsoft Square, the 40,000 square foot plaza in L.A.LIVE used for events and community gatherings, would be renamed as Xbox Plaza.

“We’re stoked to announce that in collaboration with AEG and L.A. Live, Microsoft Square will soon be renamed Xbox Plaza and will be a big part of what we have in store for E3 in June,” an official statement reads. “We’ll have more to share on how Xbox Plaza is shaping up, all things FanFest and so much more goodness on E3 2019 in coming weeks and months ahead so be sure to stay tuned to Xbox Wire, This Week on Xbox and Inside Xbox for all the latest info.”

A rendering of what the new Xbox Plaza will look like was also shown. You can see it above.

This rebranding effort comes ahead of Microsoft E3 conference this June and its associated events. Both Sony and Nintendo have opted out of having a major presence at E3 2019 which almost guarantees to give Microsoft the majority of focus for both viewers and attendees. This added emphasis on the Xbox brand with Xbox Plaza should promote the Xbox One consoles, Xbox services, and Xbox games even more.

          • NEON NOIR: Real-Time Ray Traced Reflections - Achieved With CRYENGINE

Technology Reveal: Real-Time Ray Traced Reflections achieved with CRYENGINE.

All scenes are rendered in real-time in-editor on an AMD Vega 56 GPU. Reflections are achieved with the new experimental ray tracing feature in CRYENGINE 5 - no SSR.

Neon Noir was developed on a bespoke version of CRYENGINE 5.5., and the experimental ray tracing feature based on CRYENGINE’s Total Illumination used to create the demo is both API and hardware agnostic, enabling ray tracing to run on most mainstream, contemporary AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. However, the future integration of this new CRYENGINE technology will be optimized to benefit from performance enhancements delivered by the latest generation of graphics cards and supported APIs like Vulkan and DX12.

If they achieve ray-tracing with this type of quality with vega 56 GPU, imagine how crazy ray-tracing tech will look with next gen GPU's.

          • Rage 2's Xbox One X resolution and frame rate clock in at 1080p 60 FPS

Rage 2 should be quite smooth on Xbox One X.

Rage 2 is a first-person shooter which takes place in a post-apocalyptic future. Following a catastrophic asteroid impact, Earth is in ruin and numerous individuals are put into underground hibernation. Unfortunately, events don't go according to plan and the surface is overrun by mutants and an oppressive organization known as "The Authority." It's up to you to liberate everyone and dismantle the oppressive regime once and for all.

Recently, Hardcore Gamer sat down with id Software Studio Director Tim Willits to discuss post-launch plans for Rage 2 and performance on Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro. Instead of focusing on a 4K 30 FPS mode, the team decided to improve the frame rate. Willits said the following.
To make it simple, on the enhanced consoles, it runs at 1080p 60 FPS. On base hardware, it runs at 30 FPS. On PC, it's uncapped. We went for speed over 4K for the enhanced consoles.
While a lot of individuals will be disappointed because 1080p games look somewhat blurry on modern 4K displays, it's still great to know that the frame rate has been improved. Hopefully the game will be a locked 60 FPS on Xbox One X.

The Deluxe Edition of Rage 2 comes with access to an expansion planned for Summer 2019, but it looks like that's not where the content ends. Willits said that the company is planning more paid and free content down the line. It seems like it'll depend on what gamers want. You can read another except from Willits below.
We do have some plans for paid and free content. It is a single player game and we do have some community pushes we'll talk about in the future. The way our technology works, does allow us to integrate and change the world easier than other games.
Hopefully Rage 2 will be a polished experience when it launches on May 14. Bethesda hasn't had a lot of luck recently with the post-apocalyptic genre, so maybe this will change its fortunes.

BOOOOOOO!!! Fuck Parity, there's no excuse for doing this, they can easily do a 4K/30fps mode and a 1080p/60fps mode just like Forza Horizon 4. Well id Software this is a easy pass for me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          • New Halo Insider Program Announced

            Become a Halo Insider

The Halo Insider Program is the new way Halo fans and community members can partner with 343 Industries to improve our games, products, and services. As a Halo Insider, you’ll have the opportunity to regularly provide feedback and insights that help shape and inform current franchise initiatives and the future of Halo. You will also be given exclusive opportunities to participate in public flights of in-progress Halo game releases and provide feedback to the development teams.

            Public Flighting

Halo Insiders who choose to opt in to console or PC flighting will be considered for early access play sessions with in-development Halo games. Every improvement to Halo: The Master Chief Collection over the past year was the direct result of Insiders participating in flights and sharing feedback to the development team. Each public flight has specific goals, meaning not all Insiders will be selected for every flight. To increase your chances for selection, make sure your Halo Insider settings are complete and accurate. And remember, you can always come back to update your settings or opt out of the program.

            Community Feedback

Halo Insiders provide ongoing community feedback by sharing their thoughts and perspectives with the team at 343 Industries via periodic surveys. Over the years, these surveys ( formerly part of Halo Community Feedback Program or “HCFP”) have provided invaluable insights that helped inform everything from in-game weapon tuning and playlist updates to future consumer products and merchandise roadmaps. Halo as a game and franchise doesn’t exist without its passionate fan base and we look to our community to ensure that your input is at the center of everything of we do.
