  • The first '1904' Xbox One Insider build focuses on dashboard performance (Updated)

With the holiday season over, the Xbox dashboard team is back at work on the next big update.

Microsoft is back at work preparing for the next big Xbox dashboard update, dubbed "1904." Microsoft notes that this first update, which will download a full-blown system OS at 3.6GB, is laying the groundwork for future features. However, there are some interesting morsels to digest while we wait for those features to be turned on.

Update: Microsoft discovered an issue that means this build has been delayed temporarily. We'll let you know when the new ship date drops.

Namely, there are a lot of performance upgrades in this build, notably for Cortana, My Games And Apps, the dashboard itself, mouse performance, and network reliability.

The full build notes are as follows, and it should begin rolling out today to all members of the Xbox One Insider Program on the Alpha Preview ring. Users in the Beta ring are also getting a new build, dubbed 1902, which contains some of these updates but not all, slated to launch to the general public sooner than 1904.
Happy New Year, Xbox Insiders! Starting at 2 p.m. PST today, we'll be releasing the latest 1904 Xbox One system update to Preview Alpha (1904.190107-2015). This first update is meant to lay the groundwork for what's to come, so while you'll find fixes and known issues listed below, please keep an eye out for feature announcements as they're ready to be previewed. Please note that the build is a full build around 3.6G and it will not refresh the console. Thanks, as always, for your passion for helping make Xbox One system updates the best they can be prior to release to GA!

      • Bungie Splits With Activision, Keeps Destiny

Bungie and Activision are splitting up, an industry-shaking divorce that will see Destiny enter fully into Bungie’s control.

This development comes after years of tension between the two companies—tension that has existed since before the first Destiny even shipped. Bungie told employees during a team meeting this afternoon, framing it as fantastic news for a studio that has long grown sick of dealing with its publisher.

Destiny, which first launched in September 2014, has had a long and rocky road through expansions, updates, and a sequel. The most recent major entry in the franchise, Destiny 2: Forsaken, was beloved by players but failed to meet Activision’s sales standards.

I thought the same thing, but look what Phil Spencer tweeted in the post below he carefully worded and use the word independent studios, I don't think they will acquired them and I think Bungie doesn't need to be acquired, because they receive an investment of 100 millions from a Chinese company ( NetEase) recently for the new IP they are working on, but I do think Microsoft will have the marketing rights for the new game Destiny 3 or the new IP.

Yup! After playing the demo the graphics are a little blurry on Xbox One X, I hope this demo is an old build and the final game looks better, if not Capcom have not excuse because Devil May Cry V runs in the same engine and it is native 4K 60fps on Xbox One X.

        • Crackdown 3’s 5v5 Wrecking Zone Multiplayer Was a Design Decision, Not a Technical Costraint

Wrecking Zone, the Azure-based cloud-powered multiplayer mode of Crackdown 3, has been the main topic of discussion throughout the game’s development since the stunning destruction tech demo at Gamescom 2015.

It then proved to be quite difficult for the developers to transform that tech demo into a working and fun game, which led to multiple delays. When they finally did and were able to showcase Wrecking Zone once again in November, hopes of a large scale multiplayer (perhaps with a Battle Royale flair) were dashed by the developer’s decision to limit matches to a 5-versus-5 affair.

In a Q&A published on the latest Xbox: The Official Magazine (February 2019, issue 173), Joseph Staten, Senior Creative Director at Microsoft Global Publishing, talked about this choice.
That was a design-led decision, it wasn’t a technical constraint. Five versus five gave us a good balance, especially with map size and overall chaos. Crackdown 3 is very fast; you’re hyper-agile, the world is blowing up all around you and if you are surrounded by 50 other players it just becomes much harder, I think, to feel powerful. This way, you can really stand out, take aggressive actions and be rewarded for them. You can feel like an Agent. So, really, it came down to design; there’s certainly the ability to have more or less players but as we’ve playtested it over the years we just gelled around team-based five versus five action.
However, his colleague Jorg Neumann (Head of Production at Microsoft Global Publishing) seemed to suggest the exact opposite only a few months ago when he stated that there were memory limits to be taken into account in Wrecking Zone.
We prototyped a bunch of modes. We have all kinds of dreams how this can take off. People were asking about Battle Royale, “why aren’t there 100 players?” There’s a reason we have five versus five, and the map sizes too. There’s so much stuff that you need to keep in memory, due to the destruction, that there are limits. Once you have a map that is a nice size and creates the pace of destruction the way we dreamed of it, having more players can be counter-productive, but we’re still experimenting, the tech will evolve too.
In all likelihood, it could have been a bit of both, if we’d have to place a bet. Additional, perhaps larger modes may be added to the game after its debut, anyway.

            • New year update, Xbox One patch announcement and DLC news!

              Hi everyone,

After a much needed holiday break, we are officially back in the studio and ready to start a brand new chapter! From all of us at the studio, we wish you a happy new year.

Big things are coming this year, including the DLCs. We are happy to say that things are going well and that we’ll start sharing specific news very soon. Let’s say that we hope you enjoyed the wacky side of We Happy Few.

However, in more immediate news, the team has also been working on patches and updates for the main game. Console and PC versions of We Happy Few operate differently, each with their own set of specific bugs to address. Lately we have been working on Xbox One specific issues, as we received a great deal of feedback about it specifically. Today we are releasing update 1.6 on Xbox One!

These fixes will be coming for other platforms as soon as they are ready, along with their own platform specific fixes (including linux).

If you are curious about what the update will be, this patch contains a new save game system (so you have more than 3 save slots available), some small combat improvements, performance optimizations, crash fixes, fixes for progression blockers, fixes for gameplay bugs, and localization fixes. Here are the patch notes for update 1.6.

Otherwise, many of you have asked about the progress on the DLCs. We’re still a small team and are doing these DLCs ourselves. What this means is that we proceed through pre production on each update with a small team, then go into production with the full team when it’s ready - and this can take time. We want to get these right, and we very much appreciate everyone’s patience. This is where each update is currently at:
              • Sandbox is in the final stages of tweaking and QA, and will be the next major patch after 1.6 (1.7, probably). We’ll be talking about these game modes shortly, as they will provide different experiences to what you currently see in Wellington Wells.
              • They Came From Below is mostly content complete, and we’re currently reviewing/polishing up what we’ve built in production.
              • Lightbearer is full steam ahead in production.
              • We All Fall Down is in pre-production.

As usual, if you have any questions about anything, let us know and we’ll be more than happy to respond.

              Thank you,

              Compulsion Games

A new name, complete redesign, and more make the latest Mixplay (née Mixer Go) update a big one.

Microsoft's streaming service Mixer still doesn't have an official app for Windows 10, but third-party app Mixer Go has managed to fill that niche nicely for most. Today, the app received a pretty significant update, being rebuilt from the ground up with several new features and a new name: .

The update takes the app up to version 2.1.1.0 and includes a complete redesign, support for Mixer's low-latency "Faster Than Light" (FTL) streaming protocol, HypeZone channels, and more. Here's the full rundown of what's new:
                  • Complete redesign of the application
                  • FTL support
                  • Mixer Season 2 support
                  • HypeZone channels
                  • Clips
Mixplay version 2.1.1.0 is available now from the Microsoft Store for Windows 10.
