  • Microsoft’s The Initiative Has Hired Former Uncharted, Apex Legends, Anthem, and Just Cause Developers

Microsoft’s youngest studio continues to pick up impressive talent.

Microsoft hasn’t just been acquiring established studios- last year, they also set up The Initiative, a new first party studio, from scratch. And since then, the youngest studio in the Xbox Game Studios lineup has been recruiting heavily, and has made a number of impressive hires, raking in talent from PlayStation, God of War developers Sony Santa Monica, Insomniac, Rockstar, and a lot more.

Now, as per updates to profiles on LinkedIn (via VGC), the Santa Monica-based studio has hired four more people who’ve worked on some big games in the recent past. Sean Slayback has joined as the Lead Systems Designer, Ryan Duffin has joined as the Gameplay Animation Director, Ryan Trowbridge joins as Tech Art Director, while Justin Walters joins as a Senior Environment Artist.

Slayback was previously a senior game designer at Respawn Entertainment, and served in that capacity for Apex Legends, having also worked on several Call of Duty titles at Treyarch and Infinity Ward prior to that. Duffin was previously at BioWare, and worked on animations for Anthem, while before that he worked on Battlefield 5 at DICE.

Trowbridge joined directly from SIE Bend Studio, where he worked on Days Gone, prior to which he worked at Naughty Dog on Uncharted 4. Finally, Walters joins from Avalanche Studios, where he worked on Just Cause 4, while his past projects also include the likes of DOOM, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, and more.

The Initiative is bringing in some serious talent, and doing so at a fast and steady clip, so it’ll be interesting to see what they’re working on- even though it’s probably going to be a while before we hear or see anything concrete of their project. Recently, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that Microsoft’s first parties will put out single player games in the future, so here’s hoping The Initiative is working on one of those.

  • Xbox Scarlett will have better loading times with GDDR6, according to Novarama

Xbox Scarlett is increasingly something more tangible for all of us. Although there is still a long year for us to enjoy the next Microsoft console, in Xbox Generation we always try to bring you the latest information regarding what will be the official successor of Xbox One. If you already knew that Xbox was already up to date Scarlett was going to bring GDDR6 memory (as could be distilled from this job offer ), which meant that the next console would see its loading times improved, today we bring you more information that certifies it, nothing more and nothing less than the study in charge of the Invizimals saga , Novarama study .

This Spanish study has had a few words with the Gamingbolt medium , in which it has talked about the potential that Xbox Scarlett will have both in loading times and in other features that we can enjoy in the future.

Xbox Scarlett will have games with «hordes of bigger and smarter enemies»

Xbox Scarlett will have "more complex enemies that will improve the experience," says Ricardo Seligmann , producer of Novarama, as well as complete hordes of much smarter enemies. GDDR6 memory will allow you to load assets from better and more immersive worlds, especially if this memory is accompanied by a hard disk in solid state (SSD).

Ricardo Seligmann has highlighted the importance of having this ability to provide the worlds with more complex mechanics and elements . Xbox Scarlett will not only make an important graphic leap, but will also impact many other elements that will make our playable experience something never seen before. There is still more than a year of waiting, but it is good news to know that the developers themselves are willing to work with these technologies that give their games better experiences for us, the end users of their products.

  • Matt Booty: «Phil Spencer is like a Chess player, he always goes 5 steps ahead»

The interview that Matt Booty has given Gamespot is giving many headlines. The manager has talked about Xbox Game Studios, its future and the great unknowns that we still have the users of its products for the future with those properties recently acquired by the American company.

But it is not all that Booty has talked with the media, he has also revealed his admiration for how Phil Spencer works. He defines him as a chess player, and is always planning the next movements of the entertainment division.
There is no part or thing that happens on Xbox that Phil does not want to know or that is not part. He is always thinking where we should be and how to get there. It's like a chess player in that regard, always planning five steps ahead. If you only trust that, he will take you there.
    Phil Spencer, "The Humble"

Spencer has always been caricatured as a humble person, who does not like to receive praise. And in fact he has spoken on the words of Matt Booty.
This does not mean that it is perfect in this job. Obviously, there may be smarter people who do this job. I mean, I don't even have an MBA. There are a lot of things that I am unable to do. If you put me as head of Microsoft Office or something, it would seem totally false. That is not what I am.
The truth is that "Tito Phil" as we know him in Spain and part of Latin America, has done really incredible things. Not all of their decisions have been exempt from controversy or lack of approval; but of course the future that is predicted to those of Redmond and Team Xbox in particular, is bright.

      • and #boom cu mask also on XDK because at that time i said cu mask means cu complex (SE/Shader array)
as on XDK it is listed as 6 CU mask
        no way X1 = 6 CU
means X1 is 6 Shader engine
boom fit CU mask of Arcturus is 8
        mask Older GCN/Vega max 4 mask (4SE)
vs X1 XDK 6 CU mask

        • GTA VI for Xbox Scarlett: New leaks, enemies, history and more

Rumors around Grand Theft Auto VI do not stop even though the game has not been officially announced officially. In recent weeks (even months) in Xbox Generation we have shared different information about the supposed plans Rockstar plans with GTA VI.

We know firsthand that Rockstar Games keeps very secret any information about its new projects, so as always this information we must take it with tweezers, however interesting it may seem. On this occasion it has been through a Reddit user (unverified information) that has revealed these details of the supposed new game, we warn that if these data are true they may contain spoilers in an obvious way.

          GTA VI leaked details
          • We will visit different cities at different historical moments
          • We will be a drug dealer of Hispanic origin
          • We will trade with drugs in Liberty and Vice City of the seventies
          • At some point in history the main character will end up in prison
          • Our release from prison will be in the 80s and there the game will begin to develop
          • There would be cooperative in certain missions
          • There will be a main antagonist, known as "The Mexican" based on Anthon Chigurh (not a country for old people)
          • The main multiplayer plot of the game will be located in the 1980s
          • The game would be in development based on the next Scarlett and PlayStation 5 consoles

What do you think of this data? We remind you that Grand Theft Auto VI at the moment has not been officially announced, so both it is like other leaks or information that arise through the network we recommend that you take them with caution and never as official information.

          • Xbox's Phil Spencer: Video game streaming 'years and years' away from being mainstream

The future is coming, but not as quickly as you might expect, according to the head of Microsoft's Xbox division.

"We are looking at the phone in your pocket as the destination for you to stream, and the console that we have allows you to play the games locally," says Phil Spencer, shown here at E3.

If you were paying attention at E3, you'd be forgiven for thinking game streaming, via services like Google Stadia and Microsoft's Project xCloud, were coming to transform how we play video games -- and fast. Like, 2020 fast.

According to Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, that might not actually be the case. As part of an exclusive series of interviews with CNET's sister site GameSpot, Spencer revealed that he expects the game streaming revolution to take longer than some may have anticipated.

"I think this is years away from being a mainstream way people play," he told GameSpot. "And I mean years, like years and years."

Spencer referenced Netflix, and how long it took that company to wrestle momentum from traditional TV.

"Let's take Netflix, which is 20 years old," he said. "I think we forget that sometimes because tech moves so fast. It's 20 years old at this point, so it took two decades for us to get to the point where shows like Game of Thrones and House of Cards are some of the biggest shows [on] the planet and mainly watched via streaming. I think game streaming will get there faster than 20 years, but it's not going to be two years. This is a technological change. While it seems like it happens overnight, it doesn't."

Traditional consoles, Spencer says, aren't going away any time soon. For Microsoft, Project xCloud is about providing broader choice for gamers. Especially in the near term.

"We are looking at the phone in your pocket as the destination for you to stream," he said, "and the console that we have allows you to play the games locally."

Microsoft, with its Azure data centers and growing list of internal game studios, is well placed to make a service like Project xCloud wok on a global scale. Its Xbox Live service, complemented by Xbox Game Pass, is essentially already borrowing from the Netflix subscription model. It's hardly a grand leap to a broad streaming service that allows you to play video games on any device, at any time.

Public trials for Project xCloud start in October this year.
